Conference on Preservation of Fertility in Women

Last Friday, November 3, the Conference on Preservation of Fertility in Women took place in the incomparable setting of the Joan March Hospital, organized by the Human Reproduction Unit of the Son Llàtzer University Hospital. 

Their objective is to learn about the latest advances in the field of fertility preservation, especially in women who face oncological, medical and genetic challenges.

The day was inaugurated by Antonia Ballesteros Barrado, deputy director of Care Cures of the Health Service of the Balearic Islands and the manager of the Son Llàtzer University Hospital, Soledad Gallardo.

Topics related to the preservation of eggs, embryos and ovarian tissue were addressed, as well as preservation protocols in both young women and those in advanced stages of life. The impacts of gonadotoxic treatments on fertility have also been analyzed and results and evidence of the different preservation techniques available have been presented.

Dolors Manau Trullàs, head of the Assisted Reproduction Unit of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, participated; Cristina Salvador Alarcón, head of the Reproduction Unit at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona; Rebeca Gómez Casaseca, head of the Andrology and IVF Laboratory at the La Paz Hospital in Madrid; Javier Calvo Benito, technical director of the Blood and Tissue Bank of the Balearic Islands; Antònia Roig Ferrà, from the Reproduction Unit of the Son Llàtzer Hospital; Aina Borràs Capó, assistant of the Reproduction Unit of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, and Martí Mascaró of the Reproduction Unit of the Son Llàtzer Hospital.

The day ended with a round table in which professionals from medicine, oncology and hematology participated, such as Antonia Perelló, coordinator of the Functional Breast Cancer Unit at Son Espases Hospital; Antonia Cladera, hematologist at Son Llàtzer University Hospital; Mara Andrés, from the Pediatric Oncology Unit of the La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital in Valencia, and José Reyes Moreno, president of the Spanish Association against Cancer in the Balearic Islands.
